BLOCK 14: Functional Groups

Functional Groups

Introduction:  In almost every situation in life small changes can result in significant differences in how that system works. Even in a large collection of people, a small group added can totally change how the group interacts or gets things done.

Organic chemistry is no different. Simply by adding a different atom into a hydrocarbon the characteristics of the compound can become radically changed. In this unit you will see how particular groups of atoms totally change the chemical properties of a system.
