BLOCK 5: Water & Aqueous Systems

Water and Aqueous Systems

Introduction:  Without water we don't exist. It's that simple. You will discover several anomalies of water that make it unique in the world of chemistry and thus allow life to exist as it does.

All forms of life depend in some way on water. The unique chemistry of water allows it to exist in all three states of matter, and each state is necessary for the existence of some form of life.

LESSON 1: The Properties of Water

LESSON 2: Homogeneous Aqueous Systems

LESSON 3: Heterogeneous Aqueous Systems

This next video actually covers both homogeneous and heterogeneous aqueous systems... don't worry... review never hurts.

LESSON 4: Vocabulary

After finishing the videos you should create a list of definitions of the following terms.

Aqueous Solution
Brownian Motion
Colloid
Electrolyte
Emulsion

Hydrate
Solute
Solvation
Strong Electrolyte
Weak Electrolyte

Solvent
Surfactant
Suspension
Surface Tension
Tyndall Effect

LESSON 5: Learning Check
